The full-day workshop is set-up to provide practical insights into working efficiently with engineering measurement datasets. The agenda includes sessions on data visualization and interactive analysis, data import and export, automated workflows using sequences and panel pages, feature identification and extraction, durability and fatigue analysis, as well as noise and vibration analysis. The solution, which was developed in partnership with Odosolutions, was designed to address the challenges of data acquisition and management in today’s development landscape. As Kuhn’s equipment has evolved to incorporate advanced electronics and sensor technologies, the company identified growing limitations in traditional approaches to gathering field data and customer feedback, which were no longer sufficient to support modern product development and performance optimization.

Earlier trials with low-cost data logging tools lacked cloud connectivity, integrated dashboards and turnkey usability, according to Odosolutions. More advanced systems required extensive manual processing and were difficult to share across teams, while also lacking the durability required for harsh agricultural environments. At the same time, Kuhn needed a way to provide global teams and suppliers with timely access to machine data to support collaborative R&D and troubleshooting.

Following a successful demonstration of Odosolutions cloud loggers and dashboard technology, Kuhn introduced ruggedized, mount-ready loggers across both legacy and newly developed equipment. Once installed, the devices began transmitting live operational data directly to a secure cloud dashboard accessible across departments and international sites. The system integrated into Kuhn’s existing development and testing workflows with minimal configuration, enabling teams to begin analyzing and sharing data within days.

The impact was immediate. Within the first week of implementation, the new system eliminated the need for at least one costly test trip, saving several days of travel, accommodation and associated expenses. Engineers reported a significant reduction in the time previously spent on manual data handling and report preparation, while remote access to live machine data created further potential for cost and time savings across Kuhn’s global test locations.

Beyond operational efficiencies, the platform has enhanced Kuhn’s software development, testing and validation by enabling faster debugging and performance optimization. Real-time visibility of machine data has improved cross-department collaboration, allowing engineers, designers and software developers to work simultaneously from the same dataset and accelerate decision-making. The system has also strengthened collaboration with international suppliers by enabling shared access to performance data for joint analysis.

“Kvaser Edge delivers intelligence at the point of measurement, enabling faster insights and iteration during testing,” the company said. The system is designed for harsh environments and real-time performance, supporting applications such as real-time and remote diagnostics, predictive maintenance, intelligent filtering, event-based logging and fleet monitoring.

The platform features a compact ARM-based Linux computer with an NXP SE051C2 Secure Element, meeting CRA and RED cybersecurity requirements. Hardware-based security protects collected data and intellectual property, making it suitable for prototyping and large-scale deployments. Integrated GPS support provides optional location awareness for fleet visibility and security.

The platform runs on Kvaser Edge OS (KEOS), a Linux operating system tailored for data acquisition and edge analytics. KEOS supports containerized applications, enabling secure, isolated environments where multiple software versions can run in parallel. This approach allows developers and test engineers to deploy consistent setups across vehicles or test rigs, with processed data routed to cloud or local servers.

“KEOS allows teams to build secure, reproducible workspaces and update applications independently of the base system,” Kvaser added. The system is designed for automotive-grade power conditions and resilience against sudden shutdowns.

Early adopters are using the solution to accelerate development and implement new test workflows. The company is also establishing a developer ecosystem with documentation, SDKs and example projects to help partners deliver specialized tools directly to automotive and industrial teams.

Applications and market demand

The ADQ35 is designed for use in applications such as swept source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT), time-of-flight mass spectrometry, distributed fiber-optic sensing, lidar, scientific instrumentation and automated test equipment. These systems require digitizers that can capture and process large volumes of data with high accuracy and low latency.

To meet these requirements, the ADQ35 provides multi-GSPS performance, efficient real-time processing and high-speed data transfer. It can be positioned close to the detector to help maintain signal integrity, particularly in compact or noise-sensitive environments.

Performance and technical highlights

The ADQ35 offers dual-channel sampling at 5GSPS or single-channel operation at 10GSPS, with 12bit vertical resolution. Its DC-coupled analog front end provides up to 2.5GHz input bandwidth and a 0.5Vpp input range. An onboard 8GB memory supports extended data capture.

For high-throughput applications, the device supports peer-to-peer GPU streaming at rates up to 14GB/s, enabling real-time data transfer. Additional features include programmable DC offset and availability in both PCIe and USB 3.2 form factors to support flexible system integration.

Firmware and FPGA options

The ADQ35 supports a range of application‑specific firmware packages, including standard data acquisition, waveform averaging, pulse detection and SS‑OCT signal conditioning. For users requiring custom real‑time digital signal processing, the open AMD Kintex Ultrascale KU115 FPGA offers extensive resources for implementing tailored DSP directly on the digitizer.

The platform

Our platform changes that by giving brands a system that is ready the moment a recall happens.”

For recalls

Unlike generic toolsets or bolt-on features, the platform is designed specifically for recalls. It scales from single incidents to multi-market programs and lets brands manage recalls independently to cut time to action and internal overhead.

Technology debuts

The industry is moving quickly and it can be a challenge to keep up. Every year there is an abundance of new technologies on display. Some are incremental improvements to existing products, others are entirely new. It’s always surprising how companies find ways around bottlenecks. Often, these developments emerge from ongoing conversations between supplier and customer, ultimately benefiting multiple companies.

Face-to-face discussions  

It sounds obvious, but the most fruitful conversations are usually the ones that happen in person – it’s how journalists find the best stories. Year after year, exhibitors and visitors report having forged unexpected collaborations at the show, in the form of technology tie-ups or service partnerships.

Detroit’s revival 

A lot of money has been plowed into Detroit in recent years, as evidenced by the stunning renovation of Michigan Central Station, which is well worth a visit. Much of the investment has been in the tech sector. Eleven years ago – when the station was still derelict – ATTI took a tour of some of the labs at GM and what was then the FCA headquarters (see The right wave length, November 2014, Seasonal highlights, September 2015, and Powerbase, March 2015). The facilities were impressive then and are even more so now, thanks to several years of investment in innovation leading to Detroit’s resurgence as an automotive powerhouse.

Drive35, delivered by the Department for Business and Trade in partnership with the Advanced Propulsion Centre and Innovate UK, supports large-scale industrial transformation projects. It focuses on collaboration in software-defined vehicle development, hydrogen systems development and manufacturing scale-up – connecting late-stage R&D with industrial production.

Odosolutions contributes with its data infrastructure that captures high-frequency vehicle data and translates it into secure, real-time cloud analytics, enabling predictive maintenance, maximizing uptime and reducing risk across the electric vehicle lifecycle – from development and validation to full fleet deployment.

To reinforce local supply chains and create skilled technical jobs, Odosolutions is currently assessing UK-based assembly and test facilities for its logger family. In partnership with OEMs and Tier 1s, the company provides production-grade diagnostics and remote analytics to accelerate zero-emission and software-defined vehicle development.

Early feasibility studies and pilot manufacturing are underway to scale these solutions to industrial levels. The CAM Pathfinder program, which supports a range of funded initiatives to speed up connected and autonomous mobility in the UK, is well matched with Odos’s CAN-to-cloud infrastructure. Projects include assessing technical, commercial and regulatory pathways for autonomous HGVs, expanding autonomous mobility trials in live environments like airports, and evaluating CAM applications across freight, public transportation and depot operations.

These projects depend on reliable, high-integrity data systems to safely operate and scale CAM technologies. Odosolutions telemetry solutions provide the low-latency CAN-to-cloud technology, cybersecure cloud integration and real-time operational intelligence required to bridge prototype testing and live fleet deployment – an increasingly important factor as CAM demonstration projects move toward commercial readiness.

What’s new

The 2025 update sees a new measurement explorer that offers a browser-style interface to instantly search, view and export both live and recorded data, cutting data lookup from minutes to seconds. It also integrates video recording, aligning with measurement events. This enables users to visually review what happened during a test, making root-cause analysis faster and more reliable. Users are also able to flexibly report and export data in CSV, MDF, FAMOS or WAV formats, and generate automated PDF reports directly from dashboards using user-defined templates, ensuring consistent documentation and compliance.

Users are able to access the web anywhere to monitor and control tests from any browser, on a laptop in the field or a tablet at home, with no local GI.bench installation required. The new Project State Overview function offers a real-time dashboard showing device and module status, with alerts for any issues; and Struct View Navigation provides a tree-style overview to manage large-scale setups and nested subsystems.

With built-in Python scripting and GI.pythonModules, users can automate data analysis and integrate libraries like NumPy or pandas. The platform supports EtherCAT, OPC UA, MQTT, Modbus, CAN and CAN FD for easy integration of factory equipment, IoT sensors and automotive controllers without extra middleware.

Users can connect to GI.cloud instantly for global real-time data acquisition with automatic buffering to protect data integrity. GI.bench’s advanced Websocket technology provides faster, real-time visualization of high-frequency data streams for immediate and accurate event analysis. Its intuitive interface and features support a wide range of testing and monitoring applications for test engineers, lab managers and developers.

NI SystemLink connects test facilities to enhance the quality, uptime and reliability of critical test programs with built-in tools for remote software deployment, device calibration reporting and live data dashboards. It enables engineers to track software revisions, device calibration and system use across multiple environments.

This new version is said to simplify setup and installation while still offering a feature-rich platform tailored to the needs of most labs and test facilities – eliminating the long setup times and heavy IT involvement usually required by similar solutions.

“Product validation is moving faster than ever and teams need quick, reliable access to data and tools that help them make decisions with confidence,” said Jim Schwartz, director of software for Emerson’s test and measurement business.

“This new version puts the power of NI SystemLink into the hands of teams of all sizes. Native integration with NI TestStand, LabView and FlexLogger means less time setting up and more time getting results.”

Designed for small labs, the new version has the same core features and key benefits as before but now supports as few as two test systems and costs less than previous editions.
