Traffic and transportation solutions developer PTV has extended the capability and benefits offered by its traffic simulation software PTV Vissim Kernel by making the program available to Linux users within the automotive industry.
PTV Group says the software is capable of reproducing realistic simulations of entire traffic environments, including the interactions and movement of different road users using a multitude of vehicles. Within the virtual environment an array of concepts can be reproduced including autonomous driving, shared mobility and Mobility as a Service.
These simulations can then be used in the development of ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems), technology and algorithms for CAVs (connected and autonomous vehicles), and the testing of a vehicle’s compliance with emission regulations.
Vissim Kernel is a subscription-based service that supports HPC (high power computing) and is capable of working with existing systems and other simulation tools, including IPG Automotive’s CarMaker or Hexagon/MSC’s VTD (Virtual Test Drive). The company notes this cross-program integration enables a virtual environment in which a multitude of simulations can run alongside one another.
