Under a new technology partnership, Spirent Communications and IPG Automotive have built a unique C-V2X (cellular vehicle-to-everything communication) testing platform combining Spirent’s C-V2X test technology with IPG’s simulation tool, CarMaker.
Developers can use the environment to assess C-V2X in realistic scenarios virtually, with various types of road users interacting with each other. To do so, the driving function under test is connected with Spiren’t C-V2X solution in the virtual vehicle prototype. Full test automation reduces complexity and ensures that results are reproducible even for critical time and safety requirements.
Aniket Khosla, vice president of cloud and IP product management at Spirent, said, “C-V2X plays a key role in the future of intelligent mobility. This collaboration with IPG Automotive delivers reliable and efficient simulation models with an automated test process to speed up validation of safety critical ADAS applications.” The Spirent C-V2X test system enables analysis of conformance, functionality and performance of devices and automotive systems utilizing V2X applications. It can combine multiple cellular, CAN, GNSS connectivity signals and channel modeling for automotive application, enabling developers to attribute multiple transmitters to multiple vehicles and thus simulate complex, real-world scenarios. The solution’s capacity to test different frequency bands and communication protocols also enables evaluation and validation for the interoperability of vehicles from different geographical regions. Josef Henning, VP of product and solution management at IPG Automotive, explained, “With this solution, reproducible tests can be performed automatically using defined scenarios, which is an essential prerequisite for reliable and comparable results in the verification process. Our collaboration enables validation of C-V2X connectivity of different functions, including safety and certificate management.”
