A center manager has been appointed at the MIRA Technology Institute (MTI) as the new training facility approaches its opening.
Ashley South, who takes on the role with immediate effect, is looking forward to working as part of the team at the UK-based skills center. The facility, which has been built with a US$12.4m (£9.5m) allocation of Local Growth Fund via the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership (LLEP), officially opens this month.
Construction of the new building that will house the training facility has been in progress since December last year. South is in charge of making sure that everything is in place and ready for new students and visitors. When the facility is open he will be responsibile for facilities management, health and safety, and front of house functions such as reception and customer services.
The project is being headed up by North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College and Horiba MIRA, working closely with key partners including Coventry University, Loughborough University, and the University of Leicester.
South said, “I am delighted to be joining the MTI at this crucial stage in its development. Having visited the site as construction nears completion, I can see that it will be a fantastic facility for the automotive industry and I am thrilled with the opportunity to make an impact on its smooth-running right from the start.”

With experience in the service industries and on the client-side, Ashley has skills in project and budget management that will be invaluable to the MTI.
“While Ashley makes sure everything is running smoothly from an operational perspective, I will be focusing on reaching out to industry and local schools to ensure that everyone has access to the fantastic opportunities that the centre offers. I look forward to working with Ashley as we move toward the launch of MTI.”
Developing talented apprentices right through to qualified engineers, the MTI will bridge the skills gap across the automotive sector with relevant expertise and qualifications, providing students and apprentices with a ‘ladder of opportunity’ up to Level 8 (PhD level).
