Mullen Advanced Energy Operations has issued an update on the installation and field testing of an energy management module (EMM) on 40 Chevrolet Bolts within the Washington DC city government’s vehicle fleet.
The testing program, which began on April 24, 2023, is part of a U$680,000 contract awarded by the District of Columbia to EV Technologies for the purchase and installation of EMM units on Bolt vehicles in the city government’s fleet. EV Technologies is working in partnership with Global EV Technology and Mullen Advanced Energy Operations, a subsidiary of Mullen Automotive.
The first phase of testing was conducted last week and consisted of vehicle calibration carried out on a dynamometer, including dyno testing. In the second phase this week, the vehicles will be fitted with EMMs and a second dyno test will be conducted. Once complete, the vehicles will be put back into use with the DC city government. Drawing on knowledge gained from earlier testing, the companies predict that the EMMs will significantly increase driving range and efficiency of any EV.
Back in March 2021, Element Materials Technology carried out vehicle testing on 2020 Chevrolet Bolts with EMM units fitted, and the subsequent test results showed an increase in range from 269 to 431 miles – a 60% increase in efficiency.
