Subaru is developing a mid-engined sports car, according to a leaked report from an industry source.

Car and Driver reports that testing is taking place on an adapted version of the front-engined, rear-wheel-drive platform from the BRZ, but the new model will offer a mid-mounted boxer engine driving the rear wheels, with a pair of electric motors driving the front.

The source is reported to state that the new vehicle is being developed at the request of Subaru’s USA dealer network.
