Multivariable digital transmitter improves data acquisition

LinkedIn +

Labcell now offers the Meriam MDT500 multivariable digital transmitter that considerably improves the acquisition of engine air intake flow measurements when using a filtered or unfiltered laminar flow element (LFE) in dynamometers for emissions measurements and engine research and development.

The MDT500 measures differential pressure, line pressure and temperature; when used in conjunction with the supplied LabVIEW program, dyno operators benefit from a single reading for air flow, which is far superior to measuring three parameters and then computing air flow. The B and C coefficients for the calibrated LFE can be entered in the software to ensure flow measurements are accurate to within +/-0.8%.

An additional benefit of the digital technology is that the fast response enables ten flow rate calculations per second to be performed during dynamic tests. The MDT500 transmitter connects to a PC via a USB cable so the data is easily input into a data acquisition system for integration with other software.
