Component manufacturer Gestamp has opened a new R&D center in downtown Tokyo, Japan, which is home to more than 60 experts.

The facility is equipped with the latest software for crash testing and advanced simulation of hot stamping processes, enhancing the company’s development capabilities for vehicle chassis and body-in-white.

For the body-in-white, Gestamp will carry out in-depth research into its soft zone patents, enabling it to incorporate different properties into a single part.

“Gestamp has taken another step forward in consolidating its relationship with Japanese customers, with whom we aim to continue solid and long-term growth.

“Thanks to our global presence we will be able to support auto makers with local manufacturing, facilitating technology transfer,” said Francisco J Riberas, chairman and CEO at Gestamp.
