EU backs proposals for stricter emissions regulations on GDI engines

The European Union has approved new measures to strengthen on road emissions tests to include testing of ultra-fine particles, which are emitted from new GDI engines. This new rule will apply for all new car models by September 2017 and for all new vehicles by September 2018.

Elzbieta Bienkowska, Europe’s industry commissioner, said, “Car manufacturers should already start designing vehicles with lower particle emissions and introduce the necessary filters in petrol cars that are already widely used for diesel.”
