Range Rover has initiated the waiting list for its much-anticipated Range Rover Electric, offering clients the chance to be among the first to pre-order this addition to its line-up.
With more patents anticipated to be filed for the new Range Rover Electric than any other Range Rover before, prototypes are now being subjected to rigorous engineering sign-off programs to confirm capability spanning extreme temperatures, various conditions and terrain.
According to Range Rover, engineers are on target to create a vehicle with a unique active road noise cancellation configuration and sound design, as well as cabin comfort levels enabled by its electric under-pinnings for serene modern luxury.
Thomas Müller, executive director of product engineering at JLR, highlighted the brand’s commitment to creating the quietest and most refined Range Rover, describing it as “the first of its type”, and “a truly global product, as yet unseen in the industry”. The electric model, developed in the UK alongside its hybrid siblings, will provide a diverse range of options to meet clients’ needs, he continued.
Müller said physical prototype testing was underway. The global testing program, adapted for an electric drive system, spans extreme conditions from -40°C to +50°C (-40°F to +122°F) to ensure durability, integrity and thermal performance.
This electric addition to the Range Rover line-up will be produced in the UK using the Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA) in Solihull. For the first time, the batteries and electric drive units (EDUs) will be built and assembled at JLR’s Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Center in Wolverhampton, marking a significant step toward Range Rover’s 2039 net-zero carbon ambition.
