Keysight, Ettifos, and Autotalks perform first 3GPP Release 16 sidelink radio interoperability test

Keysight Technologies, a manufacturer of software design tools, has enabled the first 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Release 16 (Rel-16) sidelink radio interoperability test between the Ettifos Sirius 5G-V2X sidelink platform and the Autotalks Secton3 5G-V2X chipset. This was achieved using Keysight’s PathWave Signal Generation for NR-V2X and X-app for 5G NR V2X modulation analysis measurement application.

As connected cars and autonomous driving technology advance, 5G’s role in automotive applications is increasingly important. Sidelink communications, essential for cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) systems, enable vehicles to communicate directly with each other and with road infrastructure, independent of a central network.

The 5G New Radio (NR) V2X specification, based on the Rel-16 standard, aims to provide higher throughput, better reliability and lower latency, enabling real-time data sharing.

Thomas Goetzl, VP and GM of Keysight’s automotive and energy solutions, said, “This interoperability test marks a significant step forward in realizing the potential of 5G-V2X technology, paving the way for safer, more connected, and efficient transportation systems worldwide. We look forward to continuing our work with Autotalks and Ettifos in exploring new frontiers in 5G technology.”

The interoperability test was designed to demonstrate the successful communication between the Ettifos Sirius platform and the Autotalks Secton3 chipset using the sidelink profile defined in the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) EN 303 798 standard. Keysight’s NR V2X testing solution also facilitated physical layer testing, enabling interference-free communications.

The companies say the successful test indicates that device and chip manufacturers are prepared to support advanced V2X services and applications.

Kangmin Lee, COO at Ettifos, said, “This test is a pivotal moment for 5G vehicle-to-everything advancements. It confirms our software-upgradable 5G-V2X onboard unit provides reliable, interference-free communication for road safety and convenience applications. The collaboration between Keysight, Ettifos, and Autotalks allows us to take a collective approach in advancing 5G-V2X and takes us a step closer to enabling global mass deployment.”

Amos Freund, VP for R&D at Autotalks, said, “The success of the 3GPP Release 16 5G-V2X interoperability event further highlights our third-generation chipset’s readiness for mass deployment. This achievement builds on our proven track record in 3GPP Release 14 and Release 15 LTE-V2X, and ITS-G5 technologies.”
