Austria-based Digitrans has broken ground on the construction of its automated transport proving ground in Lower Austria.

The facility is being built on the site of the Magna Powertrain Engineering Center Steyr in St Valentin and is due to be commissioned by summer 2022. It will be used to test and develop automated and connected vehicle technologies with a focus on freight applications, and will incorporate the ability to simulate challenging weather and road conditions.

The site will have full 5G coverage alongside dedicated wet weather tracks, while a logistics depot and city street course will also feature.
