The eighth-gen Mercedes-AMG SL is about to enter the final stages of its development program. Engineers will refine the latest showpiece and make any last adjustments on a proving ground in Sweden before the car makes its debut later in 2021.

As Mercedes-AMG reveals, a large proportion of the testing and engineering work for the Roadster, which features a two plus two seating configuration, was done digitally, but final validation in the real world is still essential.

Tuning of Mercedes-AMG’s fully variable all-wheel-drive system, 4Matic+, which is now offered for the first time in the SL, is being undertaken in winter conditions. The redesigned fabric roof must also be proved to withstand the harsh conditions found near the Arctic Circle. The handling dynamics of the car will shortly undergo final refinement on the north loop of the Nürburgring, among other places. Specialists will check to ensure that this latest variant of the SL draws more than ever on its sporting roots.
