The fourth-generation electric Porsche Cayenne SUV is now undergoing real-world testing on roads. This round of physical analysis follows a prolonged virtual development phase and initial test drives at Porsche’s Development Centre in Weissach, Germany. Prototypes will endure millions of test kilometers under various climatic and topographical conditions.
Michael Schätzle, vice president product line Cayenne, emphasized, “The real-world testing has begun, and this is one of the most important milestones of the development process. This way we ensure the durability and reliability of the hardware, the software and all the car’s functions in accordance with our high quality standards.”
In addition to the familiar Porsche driving characteristics, the development goals encompass high-capacity and stable charging, high efficiency, comfort and everyday usability.
Built on an advanced version of the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) with 800V architecture, the new Cayenne integrates cutting-edge technology in high-voltage systems, powertrain and chassis.
“We are going to utilize the potential of electrification to take the Cayenne to a completely new level in a number of ways – for instance, in driving performance,” noted Michael Steiner, member of the executive board for research and development.
Investments are also planned for the third-generation Cayenne, which received a major update last year. Developments will focus on improving the efficiency of its V8 powertrain to ensure the twin-turbo engine is ready to comply with future legislative requirements.
