This week the Department for Transport released its Future of Mobility report.

Meridian’s CEO, Daniel Ruiz, commented, “The government has shown today that it is possible to use technology to reimagine how we safely move through our cities. Self-driving vehicles are a huge part of this plan and have the potential to revolutionise how we all get around in future. Britain is currently a leader in autonomous driving but we need continued investment in this technology and testing, or we will end up buying it from someone else in the future.

“Autonomous vehicles have the potential to provide thousands with travel independence and drastically reduce the number of vehicles on urban streets, cutting congestion and environmental impact.

“However, autonomous vehicles will need to be proven to be resilient to cyber-threats and interact with other road users safely before we see them in great numbers. This is why Britain is leading the world in testing, regulation and data as we look to build a self-sufficient autonomous vehicle ecosystem in the UK.”
