Peugeot has donated a brand-new 3008 SUV to the Transport Research Laboratory (TRL), which it will use as the base of its latest digital driving simulator, the DigiCar.
The state-of-the art simulator will be used by TRL as a research tool to study human behavior in situations where a driver is distracted for example, and during driving on smart motorways, as well as for the development of ADAS.
DigiCar will provide a platform for repeatable testing to gather highly accurate and realistic data – enabling governments, manufacturers and other vehicle developers to make informed decisions regarding the introduction of vehicle automation.
David Peel, MD of Peugeot UK, said, “Safety is a key consideration for Peugeot when designing our cars and our 3008 SUV is a clear reflection of that, incorporating innovative safety features and technologies. As a result, when TRL approached us to donate a vehicle to form the base of their new DigiCar, we were more than happy to provide a 3008 SUV for that purpose.
“The purpose of the simulator fits perfectly with Peugeot’s commitment to safety and innovation in motoring. It is fantastic to know that one of our vehicles will be contributing toward ensuring the safety of future automotive developments, motoring networks and vehicle technologies.”
Ryan Robbins, senior human factors researcher at TRL, said, “We are delighted that Peugeot could provide us with a brand-new 3008 SUV to form the basis of our brand new DigiCar simulator. We chose to use this car because of its popular interior layout and raised head-up display, which makes it an ideal base for our simulator.”
