Show review: Automotive Testing Expo Korea 2024.

Returning after an absence of four years, Automotive Testing Expo Korea 2024 took place on March 20-22 this year at the KINTEX exhibition center, attracting more than 100 exhibitors, 30 speakers and thousands of visitors from the global automotive sector. This leading event provided an indispensable opportunity to have valuable discussions, find new and existing suppliers, and see all the latest trends and developments in test, development and validation technologies, solutions and services from prototype to production, all to achieve better durability, reliability, quality and safety.

Notable exhibitors this year included Morai, InnoSimulation, dSPACE, SureSoftTech, IMC, Xylon and Dekati.

Feedback from visitors and exhibitors was extremely positive.

Visitor testimonials

“I have visited expos held in Europe and Korea multiple times since 2016. There are many opportunities to encounter famous testing equipment companies and explore new equipment in Europe. However, in Korea, most exhibitors are small to medium-sized companies, especially those not used by Hyundai Motor Company. If someone has an interest in automotive testing methods or new testing equipment but has had difficulty finding companies, I recommend visiting this expo to resolve your curiosity.” – Junpyo Kim, researcher, Hyundai Motor Group.

“It’s been a while since I’ve been to the show, and I attended because I wanted to know the trends and share them with my colleagues. It was interesting, especially tools and software testing, and there were more booths about batteries and environmental cars than before. I would recommend this show to anyone who works in a software-related department or is an engineer in a company.” – Myungsoo Jung, researcher – automotive software testing team, LG Electronics

“I’ve been working with the team that tests batteries. I attended the show to gain insights into the equipment on display and the technologies available, aiming to learn more about the field and its technologies. I recommend the show to those who have no experience but wish to work in the automotive testing industry or to those who want to gain experience in automotive testing technologies.” – Woosung Choi, researcher, Hyundai Mobis

Exhibitor testimonials

“We are delighted to participate in Automotive Testing Expo once again after 2019, alongside our Korean partner Techways, showcasing our advanced datalogging and HIL systems for AI-based in-car applications. Being selected as presenters on the technology stage allows us the honor of sharing our experiences in overcoming common challenges in the development and validation of AI-driven automotive systems.” – Gordan Galic, technical marketing director, Xylon

“This exhibition serves as a kind of trade fair where high-quality products can be found, and it brings us high-quality customers. Since participating in 2018, we have continued to attend Automotive Testing Expo Korea as a platform to resell our products and solutions.” – Felix Wong, vice president, IMC

“We attended Automotive Testing Expo in Europe for three consecutive years. This exhibition is the largest event in Korea where major OEMs such as Hyundai, Hyundai Mobi, and Mando, as well as global companies, all participate. It is an opportunity to discuss and exchange various technological developments with Korean OEMs and to consider business expansion simultaneously.” – Dong Hyun Lim, head of business development office, Morai

“I think the Korean automotive industry has an exceptional presence as a global showcase. So anybody who wants to offer something to the automotive industry, especially, should consider this as the perfect location to showcase products and engage with automotive companies based in Korea. It’s more important here to reach our target audience and it’s been a very positive experience for us.” – Peter Lambaerts, business development manager and CMO, Dekati

Exhibition highlights

Morai highlighted its smart solutions for optimizing tire building on its booth, with advanced camera-based vision systems, self-learning AI algorithms and self-adjusting processes driving further automation. The company emphasized how combining AI, machine learning and smart software enhances control, agility and quality in its TBM systems.

InnoSimulation introduced visitors to the software/hardware implementation methods in its autonomous driving test platform . The company’s booth was structured as a total solution comprising DIL, HIL and VIL. Visitors also could watch videos demonstrating the implementation with a VIL mockup. Company representatives also showcased how to implement the motion platforms and control logic systems necessary for various testing scenarios, known as driver in the loop.

At dSPACE’s booth, visitors explored solutions for ADAS, autonomous driving, cameras, radar, lidar, perception algorithm development and products that simulate the role of a human eye, such as the lidar camera. Comprehensive testing equipment with autonomous driving functions was also on display.

Seul Lee, manager of dSPACE Korea, stated, “Through this exhibition, we can anticipate significant enhancements in communication solutions. For instance, with the increasing number of components connected to automobiles and the complexity of communication lines, it seems that there will be a greater diversification of development products and solutions in communication. Although Automotive Testing Expo is known as an exhibition targeting automotive-focused companies, I believe automotive technology can also be applied to other sectors such as aviation, agricultural machinery, construction equipment, robotics and drones.”

Technology Presentation Stage highlights

The event also included a free-to-attend Technology Presentation Stage, providing insights from industry experts representing OEMs, Tier 1 and Tier 2 manufacturers, suppliers and research institutions. Highlights included Magus Technology describing the use of AB Dynamics systems in multi-vehicle testing for automated driving safety verification and performance validation evaluations. The company’s manager, Hyangseol Cho, said, “Automotive Testing Expo Korea is the largest exhibition dedicated to automotive testing and is of interest to most engineers involved in vehicle testing, which is why we chose to attend. We are honored to be presenting here again.”

SureSoftTech took the opportunity to discuss the vital evaluation criteria and tools necessary for testing artificial intelligence, especially concerning its verification. Minhyuk Kwon, a principal researcher in the Intelligent Test Automation Room at the SureSoft Test Automation Research Institute, presented international trends in the company’s testing methods in a technical paper titled ‘The way to trustworthy and reliable AI’. He shared insights into the future of AI, emphasized its significant advances and highlighted the importance of tailored testing methods for automotive applications.

Prof. Jae-ho Shim of Suwon University shared his insights in a paper titled ‘Hydrogen fuel cell/stack test introduction and development direction’. He discussed the core of hydrogen car technology, emphasizing that the fuel cell and stack serve as the equivalent of an engine in conventional internal combustion engines. He also explained that although methanol and ethanol once served as eco-friendly alternatives, their carbon content makes them unsuitable for carbon neutrality, and highlighted hydrogen’s potential for widespread adoption due to its economic and safety advantages.

Automotive Testing Expo Korea will return to KINTEX on March 18, 19 & 20, 2026 – visit the website to find out more and to register your interest in the next show.
