Dr Wolfgang Demmelbauer-Ebner has been appointed chief engineering officer for Volkswagen Group of America. Dr Demmelbauer-Ebner will report to Hinrich J Woebcken, president and CEO of Volkswagen Group of America.

“A key part of Volkswagen’s Transform 2025+ strategic plan relies on the major regions globally taking more responsibility for developing products customized to their local markets,” said Woebcken. “The North American engineering group will be essential in helping us to reach our goals, and with Wolfgang we have someone on board with extensive experience in engineering world-class automotive products.”

The North American engineering division includes multiple facilities across the USA and Mexico, including the North American Engineering and Planning Center in Chattanooga, and the Design Center California in Santa Monica.

“I am excited to take on the challenge of growing the engineering footprint of Volkswagen’s North American region, building on the outstanding work of Matthias Erb,” said Dr Demmelbauer-Ebner.

“With models such as the upcoming Volkswagen Atlas five-seater, we have more opportunities to demonstrate how Volkswagen engineering can draw on the worldwide best automotive engineering resources while satisfying the specific needs of North American vehicle owners.”

Dr Demmelbauer-Ebner replaces Dr Matthias Erb who becomes head of the holistic user experience division at Volkswagen’s headquarters in Wolfsburg, Germany.

Dr Demmelbauer-Ebner has completed various international assignments at Volkswagen, Audi and Seat. He earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University in Vienna.
