현대와 Canoo, EV 플랫폼 공동 개발

한국의 현대자동차그룹과 미국의 EV 스타트업 Canoo가 전기 차량 플랫폼을 공동 개발하고 있습니다. 이를 통해 향후 기아와 현대 모델은 Canoo의 스케이트보드 아키텍처를 기반으로 제작될 것입니다.

Canoo는 기아와 현대의 사양을 충족하는 플랫폼 개발 분야에 엔지니어링 서비스를 제공할 예정입니다. 이를 통해 제작된 확장 가능한 완전 전기 플랫폼은 소형 EV부터 특수 목적용 차량까지 다양한 분야에 사용될 것입니다.

Canoo의 설립자 Ulrich Kranz는 “대담한 신형 전기 차량을 개발하기 위해 꾸준히 작업하고 있으며, 현대와 같은 글로벌 리더와 파트너십은 Canoo 같은 신생 기업에 매우 중요합니다. 현대와 협력하여 미래 모델에 사용할 EV 아키텍처를 개발하게 되어 매우 영광입니다”라고 소감을 전했습니다.

Canoo의 스케이트보드 플랫폼은 차량의 가장 중요한 구성품을 통합하며, 기능적 통합을 매우 강조합니다. 이렇게 기능에 주력한 덕분에 기존 스케이트보드 플랫폼에 비해 스케이트보드 크기, 무게, 총 부품 개수가 감소하여 캐빈 공간이 증가하고 더욱 비용 효과적인 EV 제품으로 이어집니다. 더불어 이 플랫폼은 모든 인테리어 디자인과 연계될 수 있는 독립형 유닛입니다.

현대는 개발 프로세스를 단순화하고 표준화할 수 있는 플랫폼 설계를 원한다고 구체적으로 밝혔습니다. 또한 EV 조립 라인의 복잡성도 줄일 수 있도록 노력하고 있습니다.

현대자동차그룹의 연구 개발 본부장 Albert Biermann은 “Canoo의 혁신적인 EV 아키텍처가 제공하는 개발 속도와 효율에 매우 감명받았습니다. 현대는 모빌리티 산업의 리더가 되기 위한 변화를 추진하고 있기 때문에 Canoo는 현대에게 완벽한 엔지니어링 파트너입니다. Canoo 엔지니어와 협력하여 자율 주행 차량과 대량 생산에 적합한 비용 효과적인 플랫폼 콘셉트를 개발할 것입니다”라고 밝혔습니다.
