V-Motech’s CEO outlines the latest advancements in the company’s emissions testing equipment, more details of which will be available at Automotive Testing Expo Europe 2016

What are the current industry trends in vehicle emissions testing?

The industry is currently transforming in two major ways. Firstly, there is an increasing focus on the development of autonomous vehicles and secondly, the governments are forcing manufacturers to reduce exhaust pollutants. In future, the majority of vehicles will need to meet these two criteria to be considered acceptable. One of the biggest challenges is to do these two things in tandem. All stakeholders must shape their R&D accordingly.

How is V-Motech responding to this?

V-Motech has developed RDE Easy for testing according to the upcoming Real Driving Emissions (RDE) standard. This system can measure the concentration of five gases in addition to the particulate number during real-world driving. The flow is accurately measured, enabling engineers to fully characterize the emissions of diesel or gasoline-powered vehicles.

How is V-Motech helping to ensure the reproducibility of RDE tests?

V-Motech developed one of first climatic mobile chassis dynamometers, V-Road, which enables repeatable testing under controlled conditions. Our latest improvement of this system is the integration of two other rollers that enable the testing of four-wheel drive vehicles. Thanks to this solution, manufacturers will be able to test and develop all types of vehicles anywhere, anytime.
