Testing Expo China 2024 – Automotive, held August 28-30 at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center, featured over 330 exhibitors, 30+ speakers and thousands of visitors. The event showcased advanced testing, validation and calibration technologies aimed at transforming China’s automotive industry, including autonomous vehicle (AV) and/or ADAS development, testing and validation; electric and hybrid powertrain testing; battery technology; and NVH analysis.

Notable exhibitors included Getec Vehicle Technology (Suzhou), AB Dynamics, HBK, Keysight, dSPACE and Dewesoft.

Feedback from exhibitors and attendees was positive:

Xiaopeng Lu, a senior expert in intelligent driving software development at Lotus Robotics, said, “At the Stuttgart exhibition in June, we received very positive feedback, which is why we are exhibiting independently this time. Participating in events like the Testing Expo China – Automotive allows us to connect with more high-quality customers and potential partners, creating more opportunities to promote our products.”

Weiyuan from MegaSig stated, “We believe that Testing Expo China – Automotive is a major event with significant influence in the industry. Although MegaSig has a decade of experience in acoustic testing, we are excited to engage more with engineers and professionals specializing in NVH testing via this show.”

Liu Yongjin (刘永进), head of automotive testing systems at ZF China, said, “I believe this show is a great venue. It’s a valuable opportunity to meet not only suppliers but also customers. Especially in our industry, we sell technology to OEMs, tech suppliers and other companies, so this event allows us to meet all our major customers in one place at the same time.”

Christian Domroes, global product and partner manager at Peak Solution, reflected on the company’s long-standing relationship with Automotive Testing Expo: “We’ve had a long history with Automotive Testing Expo since 2009, exhibiting in Europe, Korea and China. We’re always looking for opportunities to showcase our solutions, and Testing Expo China – Automotive is a great platform where many industry professionals, both exhibitors and visitors, come together.”

Ellinger (周应琳), general manager of HBK China, emphasized that Testing Expo China – Automotive is the largest industry event, noting its importance for connecting with OEMs and showcasing HBK’s comprehensive testing solutions: “HBK values this platform to engage with customers.”

Technology Presentation Stage

Experts at the forefront of automotive testing, evaluation and quality engineering spoke at the free-to-attend Technology Presentation Stage, with contributions from Itech, Windhill Technologies, imc Test & Measurement, AVL List, Lotus Robotics and Shanghai Tosun Technology among others.

On Day 1, HBK presented ‘Electric motor and inverter measurements in high-EMC environments’, highlighting how the company’s fiber-optic power measurement system tackles the challenges of measuring modern inverters.

Rui Li, marketing initiative manager at Keysight, presented ‘Test the future of automotive EV and AV’. She noted, “It’s rewarding to see genuine interest from the audience and have attendees visit our booth after the talk.”

Exhibition

On the exhibition floor, the latest innovations in vehicle and component testing and validation technologies were on show from 310 exhibitors including AI Dynamics, ETS Solutions, eMpulse Test Systems, Dewesoft China, ForceChina, HBK – Hottinger Brüel & Kjær UK, Huber China, Humanetics Innovative Solutions and Messring.

Getec Vehicle Technology presented a chassis domain control platform for electric vehicles, which integrates powertrain control, battery management and electric power steering. The platform featured flexible applications in logistics and mobile businesses, with customizable options for battery capacity, charging methods and automated driving.

Lotus Robotics showcased its intelligent driving software, toolchains and integrated data collection hardware at its booth. A water-resistant device collects data from all sensors and the vehicle’s bus system, while a tablet displays real-time data. Discussing market trends in China, Xiaopeng Lu, a senior expert in intelligent driving software development at Lotus Robotics, noted, “The requirements for testing and data collection devices are evolving rapidly.”

MegaSig displayed its NVH end-of-line (EOL) testing system at its booth. The system features the BuildGo low-code testing platform, measurement microphones, accelerometers and tachometers. Company representative Weiyuan highlighted that the Chinese automotive market is seeing rapid innovation from new auto makers, leading to increased testing opportunities and a focus on NVH testing as the industry shifts toward new-energy vehicles.

On display at the Peak Solution booth was the company’s test and measurement data management software, which facilitates transparent control of validation processes, conflict-free test planning and systematic documentation of test data. Christian Domroes, the company’s global product and partner manager, explained, “We aim for visitors to find our test lab models engaging and our management solutions valuable, while discussions with exhibitors keep us updated on industry trends.”

Suzhou Varied Electrical showcased DC power supplies at its booth. The company is a national high-tech enterprise specializing in DC power supplies, loads and related testing systems. Sunny, an operation assistant at the company, said, “This event has provided us with more information about the automotive industry. I believe the exhibition was a great success, allowing us to meet more customers, connect with peers and stay informed on industry trends. We look forward to participating again next year.”

HBK highlighted its remote probes, which provide precise measurements in high-EMC environments for electric motors and inverters. Ellinger(周应琳), general manager of HBK China’s commercial team, said, “I believe electrification and digitalization continue to be major trends across the global automotive industry, including in China. While there are challenges in this environment, our customers are pressing forward aggressively, investing heavily in innovation and production.”

Jiangsu Liance Electromechanical Technology introduced its Full Terrain Vehicle Test Bench, developed with domestic auto makers. This platform moves traditional outdoor tests into the lab, improving efficiency and precision in calibration testing. The company’s Guo Jianfeng (郭建峰) said, “We have participated in this exhibition for around 10 years, including at international events in Stuttgart. Every year we showcase new technologies and learn about new trends in the industry while also meeting many old and new clients. We believe this exhibition is truly worth attending.”

ZF demonstrated its TESCON testing system, designed to meet past, current and future market demands. Visitors explored its customizable configuration, real-time framework and tools for data analysis, with features like easy integration of devices, parameter management and a test program editor. Liu Yongjin (刘永进), head of ZF Test Systems China, said, “I’ve been in this field for over 20 years, and we’ve noticed significant challenges in the Chinese market. Simply put, customers are asking for better performance at a lower cost, which is a major challenge for suppliers. Due to the economic situation, we’ve observed a shrinking market volume, which is another challenge for the industry. This affects not just EVs but also suppliers.”

Keysight showcased its Scienlab Charging Discovery System Series (CDS), a modular solution for comprehensive testing of EV charging interfaces, including automated functional, conformance and interoperability testing for various applications. Rui Li, the company’s marketing initiative manager, noted, “The automotive industry is advancing faster than we anticipated, especially in China. The EV market is expanding rapidly as AV technology evolves, making testing capabilities and efficiency crucial before bringing products to market.”

The China edition of the Automotive Testing Expo series was a resounding success, and we look forward to welcoming our exhibitors and visitors once again on August 27, 28, 29, 2025 – save the dates in your diary! In the meantime, you can see more highlights from the show on the website.
