Automotive test solution provider AB Dynamics has released a significant update to its Track Applications Suite, a single software ecosystem for the testing and validation of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
This update includes the addition of more than 400 new pre-defined active safety test scenarios to the system’s library, supporting a wide range of industry-standard protocols such as CNCAP and UNECE.
The latest Track Applications Suite’s expanded library of test scenarios includes 237 tests for the 2024 CNCAP protocols, 60 tests for the upcoming EU General Safety Regulation effective in July and 120 tests for UNECE protocols, including the latest scenarios for heavy vehicles.
“Many of our customers, including NCAP-affiliated laboratories, use our Track Applications Suite as a first level of verification,” said Joel Blyth, lead application engineer at AB Dynamics. “We also use the same software and resulting data to support submissions of our hardware products for Euro NCAP approval.”
The company says this library of pre-defined scenarios is designed to reduce development time by enabling test engineers to automate the creation, setup, variation, execution and verification of industry-standard active safety protocols.
The suite integrates various software applications necessary for managing tests and controlling robot-driven vehicles and ADAS targets.
The software can calculate the location, trajectory and speed of vehicles under test and other objects, automatically adjusting scenarios to account for different vehicle dimensions to ensure precise control of collision points as per test requirements. AB Dynamics says the Scenario Generator tool allows engineers to visualize expected collision points by overlaying paths before starting tests. Efficiency can be further enhanced by the Post Processor application, which is designed to provide instant pass/fail results.
A new feature called Move to Point automatically repositions test objects to new starting points at the end of each test, to improve safety and efficiency on the test track by ensuring that objects are in the correct position for the next test.
“To sell their vehicles globally, manufacturers must conduct and pass hundreds of active safety tests for various regulatory and consumer bodies, for every single model they produce,” said Blyth. “This can be very time and cost-intensive, but our end-to-end test solution automates a lot of this work. The test scenario database alone saves engineers substantial development time on every vehicle, just in generating new scenarios and developing validation strategies.”
Each test scenario has been tested by AB Dynamics, both in simulations and on-track, which the company says was to ensure reliability and accuracy.
