Danielson Engineering, based at Magny-Cours in France, recently commissioned a new test bench capable of testing high-capacity industrial engines (between 6 and 15 liters) such as those found in trucks, agricultural machinery and military vehicles.
Danielson says that in the field of industrial engines, demand is high for the development of new products and the provision of reverse-engineering services, so it has responded by installing a specific tool for the job.
“So far our test benches, which are optimized for testing automotive engines, did not enable us to work on blocks developing high torque values, such as those fitted to trucks, so we decided to invest in a new bench for applications up to 3,000Nm,” says the CEO of the company, Bernard Delaporte.
“We have designed and manufactured in-house a heavy-duty support that can accommodate engines weighing a tonne. Our power system has the ability to provide large currents – 1000A at 24V – whereas our car benches are equipped for 12V / 250A,” explains Eric Esterlingot, head of engine services.
Performance, consumption, emissions and numerous other parameters can be studied with this bench, which is well equipped for the analysis of combustion and gas, with a capacity of 100 data channels at 100Hz and 32 channels at 500Hz.
The dyno itself is a Schenck WT470 with MORPHEE control software, Rotronics brake controls and D2T OSIRIS combustion analysis. AVL and Horiba emissions analysis equipment is also available.
