Volvo Cars has opened its latest tech hub in Stockholm, Sweden. The new facility covers 7,500m2 over two floors and will cater for more than 700 of the OEM’s employees.
Located near the Volvo Studio in downtown Stockholm, the tech hub will be used by the OEM to work toward its mid-decade targets; Volvo predicts that by 2030 its cars will be all-electric and powered by state-of-the-art core computers which will receive over-the-air updates, enabling constant improvements.
The tech hub will also be used by Volvo as its base for businesses and activities within the Stockholm region. With aims to be a core part of the city’s technology scene, a multitude of events will be held at the site to enable the OEM to engage with other knowledgeable people and businesses in the Swedish capital.
“To accelerate our transition, we’re in the process of recruiting hundreds of talents in areas such as software engineering, data science and analytics, product management, online business and customer experience development,” said Björn Annwall, chief commercial officer and deputy CEO, Volvo Cars. “Many of them will be based out of our new tech hub.”
