UK-based commercial EV startup Arrival might be best recognized for its electric delivery vehicles, but the company is also intrinsically linked to the Roborace autonomous race series – the two companies share directors and are both based in Banbury, Oxfordshire.
Arrival says it has been using the autonomous competition to fine-tune its driving algorithms using Roborace’s DevBot 2.0 race car. According to Arrival, this enables it to test its autonomous software to the limits, helping to improve the software ready for use in its commercial vehicles.
Part of the company’s ultimate goal is to prove that the AI can perform better than a human racing driver, and over the past few years it has been working to challenge professional racer Lucas di Grassi at a number of different racetracks.
