Toyota Research Institute-Advanced Development (TRI-AD) is now using all areas of its new Tokyo R&D office, which opened in July 2019.
According to the company, the office space adopts a unique, revolutionary interior design layout. Some of its key features include a special training center, dining areas where healthy meals are provided, and relaxation spaces. Furthermore, many novel ideas proposed by employees have been implemented into the design of the hub.
Decorative ‘rivers’ flowing into the entrance are made of scrap glass leftover from the manufacturing of cars. When crossing the bridge there is an art wall featuring a collage of 1,000 company logos, and a 30m screen with 3D sound capability to showcase technologies to visitors.
Inspired by the narrow backstreets of Nihonbashi, each conference and meeting area has a unique design style. The informal areas at the end of the small ‘roads’ are designed to encourage discussions before and after meetings. There’s also a recharge room.
The four restaurants and bakery provide a wide variety and styles of meals. In the dining area some of the tables can be used to play table tennis.
With the opening of the new R&D office, TRI-AD has reaffirmed its aim to strengthen ties with local residents in Nihonbashi and universities, as well as startups worldwide.
