With the increasing complexity of modern cars come more potential sources of intrusive NVH. This year, as in the years before, Automotive Testing Expo Novi will have all the major developers of NVH testing equipment present, showcasing the latest developments. Whether you’re after a dedicated data acquisition system for NVH that can be controlled through a smartphone, or a rugged system that measures vibration in tight spaces – or both – you’ll find it at Automotive Testing Expo. Here are five highlights of the upcoming show.

Simple sound level meter

Sound and vibration specialist Brüel & Kjær (Booth 10017) has released the latest in its range of sound level meters. The B&K 2245 is a complete solution for basic noise measurements that was designed to be intuitive and versatile. It can be used as a stand-alone noise measurement device, or with a range of mobile apps, each tailored to assist with a specific job such as environmental noise measurement, exhaust noise level testing, or workplace noise. Each device can be licensed to more than one app to facilitate switching tasks.

at the Technology Demonstration Area, Gary Newton Jr, Brüel & Kjær’s director – automotive, Americas, will speak about how engineers can reduce physical NVH testing through simulation. Read his full Q&A interview here.

Electric NVH rig

AB Dynamics (Booth 6006) will be displaying its latest developments, which include the ANVH 250 and Ground Traffic Control System (GTC). The ANVH 250 measures NVH transmission from wheel hubs, through suspension components, to the suspension mounting points. It also measures the transmission of vibration up to 250Hz, from the suspension springs, dampers, linkages, anti-roll bars, and elastomeric bushes. Its design features an exceptionally stiff frame design with the company’s high-frequency linear actuators, specifically designed for this application. These actuators deliver motion over a frequency, displacement and load range not achievable with any available hydraulic actuator, in addition to being safer than hydraulics.

Vibration Research OvserVR1000

The new ObserVR1000 Dynamic Signal Analyzer from Vibration Research (Booth 6046) captures, displays and analyzes field data. It can be easily controlled by the VR Mobile smartphone app or the ObserVIEW software running on a tablet or PC.

Test benches

Following the acquisition of Hofmann TeSys Prüftechnik and Hofmann TeSys UK, Kratzer Automation (Booth 3004) is presenting a full range of solutions for drive and component test benches for use in production, research and development. This includes roller test benches, vibration test benches and chassis alignment benches.

Wireless NVH measurement

A new ‘Dual Range Dynamic Torque Sensing’ system for NVH testing will be the highlight of Advanced Telemetrics International’s booth (7024). This wireless torque measurement system features a full-range torque measurement channel that updates at 6400Hz and is typically used for test stand torque control. A second dynamic channel is ranged at 2.5% to 10% of the primary channel’s range. For example, a sensor with a ±4000Nm full range can have a dynamic range of ±100Nm. This permits the measurement of gear mesh torsional data with extreme precision.
