Expo exhibitor interview: Jeroen Verbeek, Microflown Technologies

The NVH expert reveals how advances in test equipment are improving the fidelity and speed of acoustic measurement


What are the current challenges in NVH measurement and analysis?
The NVH comfort of a vehicle is at the top of the list of priorities for vehicle developers and greatly affects customers’ perceptions of a car. Meanwhile, the industry strives to develop lightweight, fuel-efficient vehicles and alternative powertrains.

However, development cycles are getting tighter, giving engineers less time to develop cost-effective solutions for noise issues. Vehicles are packed with components such as actuators, which are all potential noise sources. Thus measurement systems for NVH testing should reflect the industry’s need to minimize development times and maximize the relevance of the obtained data.

How is Microflown developing its technology?

Our innovative MEMS-based acoustic sensor, Microflown, measures acoustic particle velocity. This direct measurement method provides improved data quality and shortens the overall measurement time. We are very happy to see after years of research and development, this innovation now at a stage where it is being embraced by blue chip companies in the automotive industry.

Our ground-breaking new solution Scan & Paint 3D enables users to visualize and see what could previously only be heard in a simple and easy to understand way. In a matter of minutes the complete sound field, as 3D sound intensity or particle velocity, is displayed as a 3D model over a broad frequency range, with unparalleled dynamic range.

This allows engineers to localize annoying and dominant sound sources and visualize how the sound propagates at what frequencies. This insight will help them to find effective and optimal solutions to attenuate the noises of the vehicle.
